Dr. Yeh is a passionate and active soloist, chamber musician, orchestral clarinetist, and advocate of contemporary music. As a soloist, she has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Taiwan and was awarded Second Prize at the 2017 International Henri Selmer Clarinet Academy & Competition. As an orchestral clarinetist, she has appeared in major venues in Detroit, Boston, and East Lansing, as well as internationally in Taiwan, Japan, and Argentina. From 2016 to 2020, she was a member of the MSU Chamber Winds and served as Principal Clarinet on major ensemble repertoire during conducting seminars and national conferences, including the National Conducting Conference, the North Central CBDNA Conference, and conducting symposiums in Chicago, Kalamazoo, and East Lansing.
As a chamber musician, Dr. Yeh is the founder and clarinetist of the Lumi Trio, an ensemble she formed in 2017 in continuation of the legacy championed by the Verdehr Trio. From 2017 to 2021, she was the recipient of the Verdehr Trio Endowment. Inspired by this lineage, Lumi Trio carries forward that spirit while cultivating a distinctive artistic voice shaped by the individual musical identities of its three members. The ensemble has been invited as guest artists throughout Michigan and Texas. In 2022, they were invited to Stephen F. Austin State University, where they presented world premieres of works specifically dedicated to the Lumi Trio.
Among them was the world premiere of Gonzalo Garrido-Lecca’s trio — a work commissioned as part of the Verdehr Trio’s 40-year tradition of expanding the clarinet–violin–piano repertoire. As of today, it remains the latest addition to that extraordinary legacy — a moment that bridged eras. Rather than closing a chapter, the performance marked a turning point — where homage becomes voice, and tradition becomes transformation.
As part of the same residency, the trio also led a guest discussion in the composition studio, sharing their artistic process and collaborative approach to new music. In 2021, they received Second Prize at the Barbara Wagner Chamber Music Competition, recognized for their interpretive depth and ensemble cohesion.
Dr. Yeh is also an advocate for contemporary music beyond Lumi Trio. She has performed Steve Reich’s New York Counterpoint for solo clarinet and tape, and collaborated with renowned composer Andy Akiho on Musique 21 new music concerts in 2016 and 2017.
In addition to her performance experience, Dr. Yeh served as Principal Clarinet in the 2019 album recording King Mangoberry: Music of Ricardo Lorenz, featuring the Michigan State University Wind Symphony under the direction of Kevin L. Sedatole. Her featured performances included King Mangoberry (Five Allegories for Wind Symphony) and Pataruco (Concerto for Venezuelan Maracas). The album was nominated for both Best Classical Album and Best Classical Contemporary Composition at the 2020 Latin Grammy Awards.
Dr. Yeh believes that music is a powerful language—a voice that connects, gathers, and transforms. She is passionate about the energy musicians share in rehearsal and the emotional resonance that emerges through performance. As both a performer and educator, she brings a distinctive artistic voice shaped by her international background, chamber music leadership, and commitment to contemporary repertoire. On stage, she leads with presence and intention; in the classroom, she empowers students to explore both tradition and innovation with honesty, curiosity, and expressive freedom.
She is dedicated to helping students find their own voice, develop collaborative sensitivity, and build confidence through creative dialogue. In both academic and professional settings, Dr. Yeh offers clear interpretive insight, a strong curatorial vision, and a deep belief in music as a space for connection, growth, and transformation.
She received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Clarinet Performance from Michigan State University, after earning her Performance Diploma from Boston University, her Master of Music from National Kaohsiung Normal University, and her Bachelor of Music from Taipei National University of the Arts.
